Perfect weather conditions provided for an exciting race weekend as the Formula Pro USA F4 Western Championships completed rounds 7 & 8 at Sonoma Raceway. Friday’s test day allowed teams and drivers time to optimize their car setups and get their drivers up to speed with the Sonoma track layout.
Qualifying Saturday morning saw Marco Kacic take the pole with a 1:37.837 lap on the classic track layout. Kyle Loh with a 1:38.400 and Rayce Dykstra with a 1:38.761 rounded out the top 3 qualifying positions.
Saturday afternoons Round 7 produced a very exciting race. Marco Kacic started on pole but retired after the first lap after another car hit him from behind knocking him out of the race. This left the rest of the field battling for position. Kyle Loh led for most of the race but on the white flag lap Rayce Dykstra managed to pass Kyle only to have Kyle pass him again in the last turn of the last lap to take the win. Alan Tang and Bijoy Garg battled back and forth for Third place with each racer passing the other several times. In the end Alan stood on the final podium spot. Amanda Cartier and Howard Sklar battled the entire race for the top Masters spot with Amanda managing a late race pass for the Masters First Place win.
Round 7 Podium:
1. Kyle Loh – World Speed Motorsports – 1:40.634
Sunday’s Round 8 Race saw Kyle Loh start on pole and hold position for the first third of the race, with Marco Kacic hot on his heels. Marco managed a pass on Kyle and then took a commanding lead getting through traffic to lead the rest of the race for the win. Rayce Dykstra drove to a second place finish after Kyle had a little hiccup spin relegating him to third place with the rest of the field driving hard to catch the top three. The Masters Class saw Amanda Cartier drive a solid fast race out pacing the rest of her class to another Masters Class victory on Sunday.
Round 8 Podium:
1. Marco Kacic – Doran Motorsports Group – 1:39.443
