Perfect weather conditions were the backdrop for an exciting race weekend as the Formula Pro USA F4 Western Championships completed rounds 9 & 10 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. On Thursday the F4 teams participated in the Laguna Seca Annual test day. Friday evening’s qualifying saw the following top 3 qualification positions:

  1. Rayce Dykstra – 1:31.365
  2. Kyle Loh – 1:31.805
  3. Marco Kacic – 1:31.827

Saturday morning’s qualifying saw no change in the order. Saturday afternoon’s Round 9 was gripping as an early issue for Rayce allowed Kyle and Marco to get past him. Kyle then led for the next three quarters of the race, constantly defending each pass Marco attempted. With about 5 minutes to go in the race, Marco was finally able to move into the top spot with a gutsy pass in turn 6. Kyle continued to try to gain back the top position, but to no avail.

Round 9 Podium:

  1. Marco Kacic – 1:32.541 (Fastest Race Lap Bonus Points Winner)
  2. Kyle Loh – 1:33.009
  3. Alan Tang – 1:33.985

Masters Class First Place – Howard Sklar – 1:37.239

Sunday’s Round 10 Race saw Kyle Loh start on pole. Marco was able to make an early pass and gain the top spot for the next three quarters of the race. The F4’s of  Marco, Kyle, Alan, and Rayce were running neck and neck for a number of laps. Eventually Marco and Kyle were able to build up a gap from the others but then a late double yellow bunched them all up again. Rayce was able to pass Marco after the course went green but Marco regained the position with a stunning pass on the last lap in the famous Corkscrew. Marco held the position for the rest of the race with Rayce nipping at his heels. Howard Sklar drove a consistent, error free race to finish out the podium in the third place position.

Round 10 Podium:

  1. Marco Kacic – 1:33.911
  2. Rayce Dykstra – 1:32.967 (Fastest Race Lap Bonus Points Winner)
  3. Howard Sklar – 1:37.599

Masters Class First Place – Howard Sklar – 1:37.599
