History

I purchased this car used with 80,000. It was a daily driver/DE car for several years before becoming a dedicated track car. The engine was replaced in 2016 with a Carrera S 3.8 engine and rebuilt in 2019. A monoball suspension was installed in 2023. The front brakes were upgraded to 6 piston calipers in 2019 and a Bosch ABS system was installed in 2023. The stock PASM struts were replaced with Bilstein PSS struts and the PASM computer upgraded in 2013. A leak down test done in 2024 showed one cylinder at 10% and the other 5 cylinders at less than 10%. Too many other upgrades to list. See the description above.

Current Issues

The car is ready for track use in its current condition. There is some smoking on engine startup which can be completely resolved by combining the engine oil with Lucas Oil Stabilizer at a ratio of 5:1 oil:Lucas. There is one small dent below the driver’s door otherwise the body is in excellent shape. There is no rust in the body or undercarriage.

I'm selling the car because I purchased a new car and I don't want 2 track cars. The car currently has a Carrera S 3.8 liter engine. I purchased this engine after it was rebuilt by Mike Bavaro of Bodymotion in Ocean, NJ after my original Cayman S 3.4 engine failed. The engine was rebuilt again by Mike Bavaro in 2019 due to an issue with cracking of the piston skirts. It has performed without incident since.
The transmission failed (as is typical for a first generation Cayman transmissionĀ  run on the track) in 2022. It took all season to replace as I replaced it with a factory rebuilt (i.e. "crate" transmission) second generation Cayman S transmission. The second generation unit is more durable than its first generation counterpart. This required a new clutch and lightweight flywheel so the new transmission, clutch and flywheel have one season of use, namely in 2023. I began driving my new car in 2024.
I go to 5-6 DE events annually so the car has been driven in the latter half of the 2019 seasonĀ  (because of the engine rebuild) and in the 2020, 2021, and 2023 seasons. It was in the shop for the transmission for all of the 2022 season. Using 6 DE events per season and 4 hours of driving per event allows me to estimate approximately 84 track hours since the 2019 engine rebuild. The car is trailered to the track and only driven on the track. It is not driven on the street.
The reason for the smoking on start up is a puzzle. Fortunately, there's a simple resolution to this problem. The AOS has been replaced. A leakdown test showed 10% in one cylinder and less than 10% in the other 5 cylinders. The resolution to this problem is to combine Lucas Oil Stabilizer with the oil in the crankcase so that the ratio of Lucas/oil is 10%. The crankcase takes 10 and one-half quarts when changing the oil. I use 2 quarts of Lucas and 8 and one-half quarts of oil. This completely resolves the smoking on start up.
Can you elaborate on the history of the engine? How many miles have been put on it since it was rebuilt? Do you have an estimate of track hours in that time?
Have you investigated the cause of the smoking on start-up?
Can I ask why you are selling?
Thank you!
